Our mission: Sharing the underwater world with all!
Indian Valley Scuba is committed to bringing our love and respect for the seas and everything that lives in and around them to as many people as we can. We believe everyone is entitled to share in our exploration, without limits, and towards that end, we have developed a number of adaptive scuba programs that allow participants of any ability to share in what we enjoy so much. Physical, medical, mental, and emotional challenges are no challenge when our staff cares so deeply about our mission. Each participant is individually counseled to determine the program most appropriate for them, and to set realistic goals to be achieved.
Several programs are currently offered at IVS, and they are described below. We are always adding new programs so check back often or call the shop to see how we can work with you, your family, or your group to get them into the water and loving the scuba experience as we do. Don't see a program that works for you? Call us at the shop and we will work with you to determine a custom program that fits your needs.
Indian Valley Family YMCA Adaptive Scuba Sundays
Indian Valley Scuba and the Indian Valley Family YMCA offer an Adaptive Scuba Program at our Harleysville facility. This program, conducted by IVS under the guidelines and standards of the International Association of Handicapped Divers (IAHD) and the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), is conducted on the 3rd Sunday of each month at the Indian Valley Family YMCA in Harleysville, PA. The program consists of five separate sessions, meeting once each month. The course starts with basic snorkeling skills, and, based on each participant's abilities, will continue through a complete Open Water scuba class, and finally, include the opportunity for underwater digital photography during the final session. The actual course progress will be dependent on the participant’s ability levels for both the academic as well as the water skills portions. Successful completion of both portions will result in the ability of the participant to continue on to actually conducting open water scuba dives and completing the scuba certification process. Certifications will be awarded through IAHD and/or PADI, dependant on the participant’s progression through the weekly sessions, academics and skills. The program is adaptive; therefore, every participant emerges as a winner, having attempted and successfully completed some portion of the program.
Two program sessions will be conducted concurrently, an early session and an evening session, to provide a greater time frame choice to the participants. The morning session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, and the separate evening session will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Depending on sign-ups and interest, we reserve the right to combine the two sessions into one for each program period. Each program will include five sessions, with classes meeting the 3rd Sunday of each month, January thru May, and then again June thru October. Classes that fall on a holiday will be rescheduled as needed. Due to the special nature of this program and the participants, the entire pool and pool area is exclusively available to IVS while conducting the program and no other programs will be in the pool at the same time. Registration will be through the IVFY and the cost is $400 per participant, payable to the Indian Valley Family YMCA.
Additional family members may participate and train in the program at the same time, and upon successful completion, can elect to be scuba certified thru IVS. Registration for these additional participants is directly through Indian Valley Scuba.
American Heroes in Diving - Rotors to Regulators Program!
Indian Valley Scuba, in conjunction with the International Association for Handicapped Divers, is currently working with the United States Army to secure several CH-47 Chinook helicopters for sinking at selected dive training sites in the region.
The Rotors to Regulators program is dedicated to help our combat-wounded veterans return to life after the service, and to resume or begin a full range of healthy lifetstyle and sports activities. Many of these heroes would never have the opportunity to begin or resume the sport of scuba diving without a properly skilled scuba training facility to support the program
Selected groups of wounded and disabled American military veterans will participate in each of the selected site programs. IAHD will provide complete scuba certification training and after the classroom and pool sessions, the divers will complete their open water checkout dives with a graduation dive on the newly sunk helicopters!
Indian Valley Scuba's skilled staff of dive professionals fills this role to a 'T'! Our fully accessible facilities, and proper gear configurations are designed to accomodate any special need or challenge. Our current programs have us working with veterans of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. We are excited about bringing this program to the Northeast.
